“Wheat Seed Production and Distribution among Peasant Farms” 2001-2003
Finance Organization: British Government, Department for International Development (DFID)
Project Budget: USD 12 500
“Wheat Seed production and Distribution among the Peasant Farms” (Kakheti)
The project involved 40 families, about 140 people. Before the project 20% of survived families had annual income of 350-550 GEL, 20% had 550-750 GEL, 40% had 750-950 GEL and 20% more than 950 GEL. Despite a less than expected harvest of 1 tone per ha (area average for the year 0.5) the income of all the families involved in the project has increased because most participating families moved one income level up. The total incomes of the 20 families initially involved in the project increased, through receiving the high quality wheat seeds, by an average 390 GEL per family and those of the second group of 20 by 158 GEL per family.
